A Woman's Right To Abortion

Should abortion be a "right" under the Constitution?
I don't think that making the choice to have an abortion should ever be considered a "right". No one should have a "right" to kill anyone, other than in self-defense or when our freedoms are threatened.

Two years ago I stood in a storage room of a large metropolitan hospital while a nurse reached into a styrofoam ice chest and picked up the lifeless body of my grandson, Cole. As she placed him in my arms, I couldn't help but notice just how perfect he was. There were no visible signs of problems, yet after visiting the doctor on Friday and being told that everything was fine, on Sunday, Cole was stillborn.

I don't tell this story for your pity, but to help some of you understand how all the excitement and anticipation of bringing your new baby home can very quickly turn into tragedy. There are so many people out there who would give almost anything to have a baby and here we are discussing whether or not a woman should have the right to kill hers.

To me, that's really sad. We don't want to call it what it is - murder, but somehow we just seem to feel better by calling it "abortion". It boggles my mind to think that in a free and civilized society we are even debating this issue.

This debate will never end and the people of this country will probably never agree. Let's face it, babies will be murdered whether it is called "legal" or not.

Since we live in the freeist nation on earth, we all have "choices". We can choose our career path, the kind of car we drive, and the person we date and/or marry. Oftentimes, I think we have so many "choices" that we get all caught up in the bad ones.

Our Supreme Court is charged with interpreting and defending the Constitution of these United States, yet nowhere in our Constitution does it give anyone the right to murder a baby.
Then we get all caught up in the question - "When does life begin?" I, for one, am not qualified to make that determination, but neither is our state or federal government.

Then we start on Roe v. Wade, a Supreme Court decision that was handed down in 1973. This Supreme Court decision gave women the right to choose killing their babies, under the "right to privacy" provisions of our Constitution. How ridiculous was that? The decision itself was un-Constitutional and must be overturned.

We all must also realize that Norma McCorvey (Roe) never wanted to kill her baby in the first place. This was just a "dog and pony" show cooked up by some hotshot lawyers and it worked.

Let's suppose that a woman is pregnant and her career is expanding with the offer of a great promotion. In order to accept this promotion, she must travel extensively over the next few months. Does anyone really believe that this woman has the "right" to just kill her baby so she can accept the promotion?

How about the situation where we have a single pregnant woman who has just met the right man, but he won't even consider marrying her while she is pregnant. Do you really believe that this woman has the "right" to kill her baby so she can get married?

How about the woman who found out that she was carrying a girl baby when she and her husband had their hearts set on a boy - do you feel that this woman has the "right" to kill her baby because the baby is a girl?

If we make killing babies a woman's "right", where does it begin and end?

And if we make killing babies legal, how about let's just kill off the elderly? After all, these elderly people who may be seriously ill place a drain on family finances, it is sometimes very difficult to obtain quality care and caring for elderly parents in our homes would mean that we would have to quit our jobs and suffer a financial loss. Should we have the "right" to just kill them for our own convenience? Some of you will probably say, "Of course not.", but isn't that what we are saying by giving a woman the "right" to kill a baby?

We can bring up the issues of incest or rape right here, but check the statistics and you will find that there are far more babies killed out of "convenience" than due to the health of the mother or rape or incest. These are all very tough situations and when these circumstances arise they should be dealt with in the privacy of a doctor's office and not in the Supreme Court.

Abortion is killing babies and we need to learn to call it that. No doubt, many great people have been murdered for no just cause, maybe a future President.

We must understand that our most basic "right" given to us by our founding fathers is - "life" and no woman or man should have the legal right to take that away.
